CSIR-SERC provides number of avenues through which students, research scholars, working professionals and general public, at large, can visit the laboratory and interact with the scientists. Some of the avenues are described below

Project Work for PG Students

Project Work for PG Students

Applications are invited through online from the eligible Post-Graduate students of Structural Engineering/Applied Mechanics for carrying out project work in various Laboratories of CSIR- Structural Engineering Research Centre (CSIR-SERC), Chennai. Applicants are requested to go through the eligibility & selection criteria given below before applying.

Eligibility & Selection Criteria:

  • Post-Graduate students pursuing Structural Engineering/Applied Mechanics in reputed institutions like IITs / IISc / NITs / BITS and Government Universities / Government Colleges / Colleges having MoU with CSIR-SERC / Private Universities / Private Colleges are eligible to apply for carrying out project work. Institutes will be given preference in the order of priority mentioned above. MHRD-NIRF ranking of the Institute will carry weightage.
  • Third and final semester students are allowed to do their project work. The minimum eligibility criterion would be of 70% marks (or CGPA of 7.5 out of 10.0) in their graduate level and also up to their second semester of their post-graduation, without any arrears. Depending on the number of applications received, cut-off marks higher than that prescribed above may be fixed for selection of students. GATE qualified candidates will be given preference.
  • Number of students selected from a Private University / Private College will be restricted to two. Maximum number of post-graduate students’ intake per year will be restricted to 60.

 

Duration of Project: Minimum of four months and maximum of nine months on full-time basis in CSIR-SERC campus.

Fees: The fee is Rs. 10,000/- plus applicable tax for project duration of up to six months and the fee is Rs. 15,000/- plus applicable tax for project duration beyond six months and up to nine months (does not include boarding & lodging facilities).

Applications are invited through online from the eligible Under-Graduate students of Civil Engineering for carrying out project work in various Laboratories of CSIR-Structural Engineering Research Centre (CSIR-SERC), Chennai. Applicants are requested to go through the eligibility & selection criteria given below before applying.

Eligibility & Selection Criteria:

  • Under-Graduate students pursuing Civil Engineering in reputed institutions like IITs / NITs / BITS and topper in the Department of Government Institutes (to be endorsed by the concerned Head of the Department/Institute) are eligible to apply for carrying out project work.
  • Only the final semester students are allowed to do their project work. The minimum eligibility criterion would be of 70% marks (or CGPA of 7.5 out of 10.0) up to their sixth semester. Depending on the number of applications received, cut-off marks higher than that prescribed above may be fixed for selection of students.
  • The project will not be offered for group of students; the students have to carry out the project work, individually, in a laboratory under the guidance of identified Scientist.
  • Maximum number of Under-Graduate students intake per year will be restricted to 10.

Duration of Project: Minimum of four months and maximum of six months on full-time basis in CSIR-SERC campus.

Fees: No fee.

Open Day at CSIR-SERC

September 26, 1942 marks the inauguration of CSIR. In commemoration, on September 26 of every year, the laboratory is kept open to receive general visitors. The visitors will be shown the facilities and encouraged to interact with the staff of CSIR-SERC on the impact made due to the R&D activities.

Technical Visit of Students and Faculty of Engineering / Architecture Institutions

The students and faculty of engineering / architecture institutions can make a technical visit to CSIR-SERC as group. The visit is organized normally for a duration of about 4-5 hours to explain and showcase the salient facilities and R&D activities. Professor G.S. Ramaswamy Internship for Undergraduate / Dual Degree Students

CSIR-SERC extends training opportunity to meritorious students of selected engineering disciplines in reputed institutions. The internship is offered in honor of the founder Director of CSIR-SERC, Prof. G.S. Ramaswamy. At present, maximum number of internship per year is restricted to 10. The internship is normally for a period of 6 to 8 weeks on full-time basis without break during the month of May-June every year. The announcement will be made in the month of March every year in our website and the application and the credentials can be submitted online.

CSIR-SERC organizes number of training programmes / courses towards fulfilling the emphasis made by CSIR for skilling / reskilling of the potential human resource. The courses are classified as Advanced or as Certificate depending on the duration and the composition of target participants.
