  • Dr. P.S. Ambily, Scientist received ICI (Chennai Centre) - UtraTech Award -2015 for Outstanding Doctoral Thesis in the field of Concrete for the thesis titled ‘Development of Ultra High Performance Concrete using geopolymer as Binder and Copper Slag as Filler’.
  • Dr. P. S. Ambily, Scientist, received “EET CRS 3rd Technology Achievement Award 2015” for Best Researcher, Tamilnadu, in recognition of outstanding contributions in research leading to the discovery of new knowledge or pioneering development of scientific or engineering techniques and methods, on 1 November 2015 at New Delhi.
  • The “President of India’s Prize” for best subject paper was awarded to the paper titled “Studies on use of copper slag as replacement material for river sand in building constructions” authored by Dr. C.K. Madheswaran, Sr. Principal Scientist, Dr. P.S. Ambily, Scientist, Dr. J.K, Dattatreya, Sr. Principal Scientist (Retd.) and Shri N.P. Rajamane, Chief Scientist (Retd.), published in the Journal of the Institution of Engineers (India): Series A, Volume 95, 2014 at 30th Indian Engineering Congress held at Guwahathi, on 18 December 2015.
  • Smt. Smitha Gopinath, Scientist, received "ICI- Young Scientist Award-2016" during the 24th Annual Award Function of Indian Concrete Institute at Bangalore on 24 September 2016.
  • Dr. Amar Prakash, Senior Scientist, has been awarded with “Raman Research Fellowship” for the year 2016-17 for a duration of five months with effect from 25 March 2017, to carry out research on “Investigations on high strain rate behavior of steel fibre reinforced cementitious composites” at University of Mississippi, USA.
  • Dr. P.S. Ambily, Scientist, received The Institution of Engineers (India), “President of India’s Prize 2016” on 16 December 2016 in the 31st Indian Engineering Congress held at Kolkata, during 16-18 December 2016, for the paper titled “Experimental studies on behaviour of reinforced geopolymer concrete beams subjected to monotonic static loading”, published in the Series ‘A’ Journal of IEI, Vol. 96, Issue 2, 2015, pp 139-149, authored by C.K. Madheswaran, P.S. Ambily, J.K. Dattatreya and G. Ramesh.
  • Dr. A. Cinitha, Scientist, has been awarded “Dr. Jai Krishna Prize” from Institution of Engineers (India) on 15 December 2016, for the paper titled “Performance based seismic evaluation of RC framed building” published in the series ‘A’ Journal of IEI, Vol.96, Issue 4, 2015, pp 285-294, DOI 10.1007/s 40030-015-0129-8, authored by A. Cinitha, P.K. Umesha, Nagesh R. Iyer, and N. Lakshmanan.
  • Dr. N. Anandavalli, Principal Scientist, received the “John C Gammon Prize” from Institution of Engineers (India) on 15 December 2016, for the paper on “Numerical investigations on a blast loaded laced reinforced concrete structure using an equivalent constitutive property” published in the Series 'A' Journal of IEI, Vol. 96, Issue 4, 2015, pp. 311–318, DOI 10.1007/s40030-015-0139-6, authored by N. Anandavalli, N. Lakshmanan, Dr. Amar Prakash, J. Rajasankar, and Nagesh R. Iyer.
  • Dr. P.S. Ambily, Senior Scientist, received the “ICI (Chennai Centre) Ultra Tech Award 2017” for “Outstanding Young Concrete Engineer of Tamilnadu” on 12 September 2017 during 'Concrete Day' Celebrations held at Chennai.
  • Dr. G.V. Rama Rao, Scientist, received “ICI (Chennai Centre) Ultra Tech Award 2017” for Outstanding Thesis titled “Seismic Performance Evaluation of Reinforced Concrete Shear Walls” in the field of Concrete (Category – Doctoral) on 12 September 2017 during 'Concrete Day' Celebrations held at Chennai.
  • Dr. Smitha Gopinath, Senior Scientist, Dr. A. Ramachandra Murthy, Principal Scientist, Dr. J. Prabakar, Senior Principal Scientist and Dr. T. Hemalatha, Senior Scientist, won the Consolation Prize in the National Level Competition "Ideas for Nav Bharat Nirman" for the concept “Easy to Build Textile Reinforced Concrete Toilet" on 15 October 2017 held in the India International Science Festival (IISF-2017) during 13-16 October 2017.
  • Dr. M.B. Anoop, Principal Scientist, was awarded Raman Research Fellowship for the year 2017-18 for three months at Ecole des Ponts ParisTech, Universite Paris-Est., France, to carry out research on ‘Stochastic multiscale modelling of creep of cement paste containing fly ash’ along with Dr. Matthieu Vandamme, Assistant Professor, Ecole des Ponts ParisTech.
  • Dr. Ing. Saptarshi Sasmal, Principal Scientist, was awarded Raman Research Fellowship for the year 2018-19 for a period of four months to carry out research under the guidance of Professor (Engineering Faculty Fellow Professor), Department of Civil Engineering and Engineering Mechanics, Civil Engineering, University of Arizona, Tucson, Arizona.
  • Dr. Prabhat Ranjan Prem, Scientist, was awarded the ICI-UltraTech Award -2018 for Outstanding Thesis in the field of concrete (Category-Doctoral) from ICI, Chennai Centre.
  • Dr.Prabhat Ranjan Prem received the prestigious CSIR-Young scientist Award  in Engineering Sciences (2019)
  • Dr. P.S. Ambily, Senior Scientist, received Indian Concrete Institute -Prof. V. Ramakrishnan Young Scientist Award 2018 on 22nd September 2018 in the 26th ICI Annual Award function conducted at NIMHANS Convention Centre, Bengaluru.
  • Dr. P.S. Ambily, Senior Scientist, was awarded First Prize under the theme Swachh Bharat for the best poster presented in the Young Scientists’ Conference of India International Science Festival (IISF) 2018, for the paper titled ‘Micronized biomass silica as replacement for silica fume in Ultra High Performance Geopolymer concrete’ on 6th October 2018 at Indira Gandhi Pratishthan, Lucknow.
  • Dr. K. Sathish Kumar, Chief Scientist, has been nominated by Hon’ble Governor of Tamil Nadu-Chancellor as a Member of Senate, University of Madras for a period of three years (2018-2020).
  • Dr. K. Kesavan, Principal Scientist, has been nominated by Hon’ble Governor of Tamil Nadu-Chancellor as a Member of Senate, University of Madras for a period of three years (2018-2020).
  • Dr. P.S. Ambily, Senior Scientist, has been nominated by Hon’ble Governor of Tamil Nadu-Chancellor as a Member of Senate, University of Madras for a period of three years (2018-2020).
  • Dr. R. Manisekar, Senior Scientist, has become a regular Member of IRC Bridges Specifications and Standards Apex Committee (BSS) for a period of three years (2018-2020).
  • Dr. N. Anandavalli, Senior Principal Scientist, has been enrolled as Fellow of Institution of Engineers (India) in Civil Engineering Division on 31 January 2019.
  • The Centre was awarded the CSIR Technology Prize for the year 1999 in the area of Computer – aided Analysis and Design, for the development of advanced mathematical modelling and numerical simulation techniques and software development, recognized nationally and internationally.
  • The Centre’s Wind Engineering R&D work and Technology Transfer on cyclone resistant construction practices won kudos and national level recognition. SERC received the CSIR Shield for Engineering and cyclone disaster mitigation.
  • The Centre received the “A.S. Arya – University of Roorkee” Disaster Prevention Award 2000 for significant achievements in Wind Engineering and Cyclone Disaster Mitigation.
  • The Centre received ISO-9001 Certification on the 21st of February 2001. This Certification was given by M/s. Registero Italiano Navale India Ltd. (RINA), in recognition of the fact that this Research Centre is adopting and implementing a very structured and systematic approach in all its activities for Research and Development in Structural Engineering besides in Management, Infrastructural and Housekeeping functions. Subsequently, SERC has obtained, during 2010, the upgradation of ISO Certification to ISO 9001:2008 inclusive of Quality Management.
  • CSIR SERC was awarded the K.Suryanarain Rau Memorial Award 2007 for Smart Technology Development for the contribution in development of “ Smart Sensor based Remote Structural Health Monitoring for Civil Engineering Applications “ by Indian Society for Advancement of Materials and Processing Engineering .
  • CSIR young Scientist Award in Engineering Sciences for the year 2010 was awarded to Dr Ing Saptarshi Sasmal. The award was presented by Shri Prithviraj Chavan, MoST (Science and Technology & Earth Sciences) and Prof. K. Brahmachari, Director General, CSIR, on 26th September 2010 in commemoration of the Foundation day celebration of CSIR at New Delhi.
  • CSIR-SERC has won Bronze icon award for the labs with less than 250 Employees category in demonstrating exemplary commitment in the preparedness for implementation of ERP application developed under CSIR Enterprise Transformation Project for Finance and Accounting operations in online of the project management portal of ONE CSIR. The award was presented by Hon’ble Minister for Science and Technology Shri Vayalar Ravi and Prof. K. Brahmachari, Director General, CSIR on 25th September 2012 in commemoration of the Foundation day celebration of CSIR at New Delhi.
  • CSIR SERC has been chosen for the Outstanding achievement award (Institutional award  and individual medallion and citation for the project Champions) for the distinguished contribution and meritorious achievement for the CSIR transformation initiatives and Enterprise Application for automation of operations on the occasion of 71st Foundation Day of CSIR on 26th September 2013, CSIR, New Delhi
  • NIGIS Corrosion Awareness Award: CSIR Structural Engineering Research Centre was awarded the Excellent Laboratory Award by NACE International Gateway India Section (NIGIS) for the year 2014 .  The award was conferred for excellent contribution of CSIR-SERC to the field of corrosion science & technology by monitoring, testing, evaluation of performance and quality of materials, and research/development works.  The Award was presented by the NACE International Gateway India Section (NIGIS) under the category CORROSION AWARENESS AWARD-2014.
